As the blessed month of Ramadan unfolds, millions of Muslims from around the world gather in Makkah and Madinah to perform acts of worship, seeking the mercy and blessings of Allah. In his recent Ramadan speech, the President of the General Presidency for the Affairs of the Two Holy Mosques delivered an important message, urging visitors to observe proper etiquette and maintain the sanctity of these sacred sites.
1. Refraining from Taking Pictures
The President called on all visitors to the House of Allah to refrain from taking pictures. In an era where social media and photography dominate daily life, he reminded the faithful that the focus should be on worship rather than capturing moments for personal documentation. The Masjid al-Haram and Masjid an-Nabawi are places of deep spirituality, and distractions such as photography can take away from the serenity and purpose of the visit.
2. Prioritizing Worship and Avoiding Congestion
Visitors were urged to occupy their time with acts of worship and avoid pushing or crowding at the doors, passageways, the circumambulation (Tawaf) area, and the Sa’i area. With the high number of worshippers, ensuring smooth movement and orderliness is essential for everyone’s safety and comfort. Respecting personal space and following designated paths can help create a peaceful and hassle-free environment.
3. Upholding Modesty and Chastity
The President specifically addressed Muslim women, reminding them to maintain their chastity, hijab, modesty, and shyness. He emphasized the importance of lowering voices in these sacred places, as a way to uphold the dignity and tranquility of the Two Holy Mosques. Modesty in speech, dress, and behavior is a vital aspect of Islamic teachings, especially in places of worship.
4. Guiding Children with Proper Etiquette
Recognizing the presence of young children in the mosques, he called on parents and guardians to guide them and teach them the etiquette of the Two Holy Mosques. While children are a blessing, they should be taught to respect the sacred atmosphere, ensuring that their actions do not disturb others engaged in worship.
The President’s speech serves as a reminder for all Muslims to approach their visit to the Two Holy Mosques with sincerity, devotion, and discipline. By adhering to these guidelines, worshippers can contribute to a more spiritually uplifting experience, allowing themselves and others to connect deeply with Allah during this blessed month.
May Allah accept our prayers, fasting, and good deeds, and may He grant us the ability to honor the sanctity of His sacred houses.
